Joella Q and A

1. How would you describe your style of law/practice or your approach to dealing with clients?

I try to be as approachable as possible to clients, ensuring that they feel comfortable around me so that they can ask me any questions they need answered. I’m here to help clients and want to build good relationships with them through the work that I do. I also like to be pragmatic in my approach, helping people solve their issues.

2. If you had a single piece of advice to give a person in relation to buying or selling property what would it be?

Seek advice from lawyers before purchasing a home. Don’t feel pressured by the vendor’s agents to buy their home. There are likely to be various instruments on the title that you should be aware of that we can look over for you before your purchase a property.

3. What has had the biggest impact on how you practice law over recent years?

As a lawyer I am learning new information every day in my practice. I’ve learnt to stop and think about the information before applying it. I’m learning to not make assumptions with the law, which I think will help me going forward in my law practise.

4. When you are not being a lawyer what do you like doing most?

I have recently taken up film photography which I love. I collect old film cameras from different decades and have recently started a blog with all my photos I’ve captured travelling. I am about to start developing my own photos in a dark room which I can’t wait to do. I love drinking coffee and going out to find the best cafes in Wellington.

5. Who gave you the best piece of advice in relation to your legal career and what was it?

My mother has always told me “You like to argue –You’ll be good lawyer”.

6. What is your favourite quote?

Defeat is not the worst of failures. Not to have tried is the true failure – George Edward Woodberry

7. If you weren’t a lawyer, what would you be?

A photographer.
